When it comes to running, having the right gear can make all the difference. Over the years, I’ve discovered my go-to essentials that help me stay comfortable, safe, and motivated—whether I’m logging a quick 5K or tackling long training runs. Here are my top 10 running must-haves that I never hit the pavement without!
1. Shokz Bone Conduction Headphones
I love my Shokz headphones because they allow me to enjoy my music while staying aware of my surroundings. The bone conduction technology means I can hear traffic, people, or any potential hazards without compromising sound quality. They’re a game-changer for outdoor runs, making me feel safer and more connected.

2. Under Armour Visor
I’m a visor girl through and through! My black Under Armour visor goes with everything and does an excellent job of absorbing sweat. I prefer visors over hats because they allow my head to breathe, keeping me cooler during hot runs. Plus, it’s lightweight, comfortable, and looks great with any outfit.

3. Feetures Running Socks
If you haven’t tried Feetures running socks, you’re missing out! They fit snugly with just the right amount of compression, and the heel never slips down into my shoe (which used to drive me crazy with other brands). Plus, I’ve never had a blister while wearing them—they’re truly that good.

4. Vaseline for Chafing Relief
Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) is my budget-friendly chafing solution. It’s easy to find at any drugstore, grocery store, or dollar store, and it works wonders to prevent irritation in all the usual trouble spots. While Body Glide is also great, Vaseline is inexpensive, accessible, and does the job perfectly.

5. High-Waisted Flowy Shorts
My favorite running shorts are high-waisted flowy shorts with built-in briefs—specifically the Avia brand from Walmart. I prefer them over compression shorts (aka “biker shorts”) because they feel lighter and give me more freedom of movement. Plus, the high waist offers extra support!

6. Coros Watch
While most runners I know swear by Garmin, I went a different route with my Coros watch because, well, I like to be different. It’s a fantastic GPS watch with great battery life, and although I’m still learning all its features, I’m really happy with it. I switched from an Apple Watch, and Coros has definitely elevated my running game.

7. Leggings with Pockets
Leggings with pockets are a non-negotiable for me. I love the DSG brand from Dick’s Sporting Goods because they’re affordable, stay in place, and offer a great fit. The high-waisted design keeps them from sliding down, and the side pockets are perfect for holding my phone, gels, or gloves during chilly runs.
8. Brooks Hyperion Max Running Shoes
Currently, I’m obsessed with my Brooks Hyperion Max running shoes. I wasn’t a fan of the Max 2s—they caused some hip discomfort for me—but the original Max fits like a dream. I even stocked up when they went on sale after the Max 2s launched! They’re lightweight, responsive, and have kept me injury-free, which says a lot.

9. GU Gels & Skratch Hydration Mix
When it comes to fueling, I rely on GU gels for long runs. They go down easily with water and never upset my stomach. My favorite flavors are Salted Caramel, Vanilla Bean, Birthday Cake, and Strawberry Banana. For hydration, I love Skratch Labs electrolyte mix (especially Strawberry Lemonade and Raspberry Lemonade). The flavors are light, not overly sweet, and keep me energized without feeling weighed down.
10. Hydration Gear: Inoxto Vest & Handheld Bottles
My hydration strategy changes based on distance:
- 5K/10K: I don’t carry water.
- 6-8 miles: I prefer a handheld water bottle.
- 8+ miles: I use my Inoxto hydration vest, which is lightweight and less bulky than my old Nathan’s vest. It doesn’t have annoying straps flopping around, and it’s super comfortable even on long runs.

🌟 Final Thoughts
These are the products that keep me running strong, mile after mile. Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned runner, finding the right gear can make a huge difference in your comfort, performance, and motivation.
